Volume 5. " THE MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE PROCESS" is characterized by pursuing in the short term the maximum efficiency of a team, so that it achieves the sports results pursued by beating the opponent in the competition.

This process has different aspects that differentiate it from other processes:

  • The training at this stage is based on the achievement of the objectives drawn from the observation and analysis of the competition (manifest errors).
  • The design and development of the team's game structure and behavior (forms of play) - both in attack and defense - are proposed so that each player can manifest their full potential.
  • The planning/programming of each micro-cycle should be adjusted to the needs and characteristics of the next competition match in which the team will participate. In this way this work will help the team and each of the players to know the specific details they will face (opponent structure, own game system and alignment, etc.) and to master the collective and individual responses that will allow us to achieve maximum performance (i.e. achieve victory - or the intended result-) in the competition.
  • Participation in the development of the technical team (ET) process is essential:
    • In a professional team this ET must be led and coordinated by a manager who has solid knowledge in all areas of training and who marks the lines of work to be followed by each specialist.
    • In an amateur team the structural and economic constraints will condition the realization of this work, and with it the achievement of the objectives. In this case the technical manager must have minimal collaboration to achieve the proposed objectives. The different types of equipment belonging to the senior category can be classified (depending on the means and characteristics they present) into three large groups:
      • Professional team.
      • Amateur team.
      • Subsidiary team.

Each type of equipment allows to face training in very different circumstances.

FEATURES OF THE MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE PROCESS:

Senior team (professional - amateur)

In this section we simply refer to the two main objectives that define these structures:

  • Obtain in the short term the maximum efficiency of the team, with the sole objective of obtaining the established sports results (generically we can say that it will surpass the opposite in the competition).
  • Achieve the maximum effectiveness of each player in relation to the forms of play established for the team, to achieve the purpose described in the previous point.

Subsidiary team (S-21 / S-23)

The fact that it is a top-performance team means that its basic goal is to win. But in this case, subsidiary teams (understood as first-team dependent teams, usually professional) have distinct characteristics/objectives:

  • The time in which the player participates in this structure (maximum 1 to 3 years) should allow him to reach the appropriate level (which he has not achieved in the AR process) that allows him to join professional football, by:
    • The manifestation of the necessary maturity (physical, psychological aspects).
    • Getting the right pace of play.
    • Acquiring knowledge and mastery of the first team's forms of play.
    • Its incorporation into equipment suitable for its evolution, avoiding its inclusion in other teams that, for various reasons, will not contribute to it reaching the appropriate level for future incorporation into the first team of the entity.
  • Only players who, despite not having the necessary level and / or experience at the end of the High Performance Process, should be incorporated into the subsidiary team, due to their characteristics it is expected that they may be interesting for their incorporation in the short or medium term at the first team.
  • For this reason, the player who joins these teams must present the following characteristics:
    • Appropriate age (between 19 and 23 years).
    • High motivational level to be professional (assuming all the difficulties and sacrifices that this entails).
    • Have the patience to wait for your opportunity to arrive, keeping intact a high level of work and motivation.
    • Manifestation of a responsible attitude, dedication to work, discipline and absolute predisposition to achieve this goal. These characteristics cause that, even in the case of a team belonging to the Maximum Performance Process, other aspects must be manifested, in addition to collective performance:
      • The necessary corrections and adaptations required by each player.
      • The incorporation of activities with formative essence to the daily activity.
      • Prioritize the work that allows the player to join the first team, to the development of a certain type of game (necessary to win in the competition of the subsidiary team) but that does not conform to that of the first team.

THE PROFESSIONAL TEAM - CHARACTERISTICS AND DIFFERENCES IN RELATION TO AN AMATEUR TEAM

We understand that the coach of a senior team, whatever the level of the competition in which he will develop his activity, must possess the same knowledge and work with the same general content and objectives established for this category/process.

The use and application of these contents/objectives will obviously be adapted in relation to the means, possibilities and characteristics of each team/club. Considering as professionals in Spain the teams participating in the 1st and 2nd national division, we understand that the basic characteristics and differences presented by their activity compared to that made by an amateur team lie in:

  • The time available to work with your players. The increased availability of time will allow you to perform deeper and more specific work in the different areas of training.
  • The highest individual quality of the players. This differential in individual quality is manifested both in the aspects of technical-tactical-collective execution, as well as in those related to decision-making and its personal and professional maturity, aspects all of which cause a greater relationship between the time spent on training and a higher quality of the training.
  • The total professional availability of the players. This aspect has two distinct characteristics:
    • The increased availability of time will allow you to perform deeper and more specific work in the different areas of training.
    • The exclusive dedication of the players allows (in addition to a greater amount of working time) the possibility to carry out trainings and use didactic forms that require a higher level of demand, attention and concentration.

CONTENT BLOCK

*(All aspects, concepts, objectives, proposals and contents of each area for the development of training and competition that we set out in this section, are detailed and developed in the different published volumes of this collection).

THE PRE-SEASON MICRO-CYCLE FOR THE FIRST MACRO- CYCLE

Activities to be developed during the first pre-season macro-cycle:

  • Analysis and design of the Game Shapes to be used by the team in relation to:
    • The characteristics of our players.
    • The characteristics of the competition(s) in which we will participate.
    • The general objectives envisaged.
  • The development in training sessions and in friendly matches of the objectives established in the Game Forms.
  • Establish the aspects to be developed in the activities related to:
    • Training.
    • The Competition.
    • Observation, Analysis and Evaluation.
    • The Team Directorate.

*The programming to be established to be developed in the pre-season micro-cycle will be based on that established for the third and fourth phases of the High Performance process (volume 4.3.). We consider it very interesting to delve into the contents exposed in the High Performance process (volumes: 4.1., 4.2. and 4.3.), to update and develop this programming. We reproduce in this section the most relevant aspects exposed in that volume, as a reference of the topics to be developed.
